Art serves something greater than the artist.

It mediates a relationship, be it, as in the case of the ancients, artist and God, or in the case of political ideology, artist and the state, or, as in the
modern world, artist and money. Art does not exist for its own sake.

I saw that the maker of objects was himself made by a maker, and that faithfulness to the maker was where I wanted to be....

There is something deeply human about pots made from clay and liturgical painting and sculpture. At some deep level, I must want to participate in this mystery.
